George Osborne hails job creation

CHANCELLOR George Osbourne tries his hand at hallmarking during a visit to the Birmingham Assay Office yesterday.

Mr Osborne praised the impact of local enterprise zones and cited the office’s plans to move to larger premises within such a zone in the city’s Jewellery Quarter as a prime example of national government helping to create jobs and growth.

The office handles more than 12 million articles a year, it was founded in 1773 and now occupies premises dating back to 1877.
