General Election 2010: MPs feel strain over expenses

MANY MPs have suffered increased psychological strain since the last general election, finding the job stressful, especially in the wake of the expenses outrage, according to a new study today.

Research by Dr Ashley Weinberg of the University of Salford showed politicians were like other employees in regard to how they were affected by events in work.

More than 30 MPs were studied, showing increased psychological strain since 2005, while those with a pessimistic view of life were less positive about their job.

Dr Weinberg, who will present his findings to the British Psychological Society's annual conference in Stratford-upon-Avon today, said: "Major events at work can have a negative impact on how well we perform."
