From Diana to Harry, royals have been targets of prying paparazzi

The Duchess of Cambridge is not the first member of the Royal Family to be photographed without their clothes on at a French château.

German tabloid Bild published pictures of the Prince of Wales naked on a balcony near Avignon in 1994. The images were taken by a French photographer using a long lens.

In 1991, the Sun printed naked photographs of the Duke of York.

The following year – shortly after Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson had agreed to separate – the front page of the Daily Mirror showed pictures of the duchess sunbathing topless, while American businessman John Bryan kissed her feet and sucked her toes.

In 1993, the Sunday Mirror and Daily Mirror published photographs of Princess Diana – a favourite of the paparazzi – in a leotard and cycling shorts at a London gym. Her lawyers took legal action.

A topless picture of the Countess of Wessex was published in 1999, and Prince Harry was involved in his own row last month over pictures of him naked in Las Vegas.
