Flying Scotsman back on the rails
THE Flying Scotsman - which hauled the first non-stop train between London and Edinburgh in 1928 - has made its first public journey since being saved for the nation.
The world’s best-known locomotive faced being lost to the United States after plans for a heritage centre at Edinburgh’s Waverley Station failed to progress.
But earlier this year the National Railway Museum paid around 2 million for it following a high-profile campaign.
The Flying Scotsman - No 4472 and still in its gleaming green livery - arrived an hour late at York station yesterday.
It will now run on trips between York and Scarborough on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays until August 31.
