Father of 15-year-old wounded by Taleban gunman ‘will return to Pakistan’

The father of a 15-year-old Pakistani girl, who was shot and wounded by a Taleban gunman, says she will return home after medical treatment in the UK.

Ziauddin Yousufzai’s, who was speaking on Pakistani state television, is expected to fly soon to the UK to see his daughter, Malala.

It was the first time he has spoken publicly since the shooting in north-eastern Pakistan on 9 October.

Malala is respected at home, and internationally, for speaking out against the Taleban’s atrocities and for advocating for girls’ education.

She was shot in the head as she travelled home from school with two classmates.

Malala was airlifted to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth hospital on 15 October, where she is now recovering after an operation.
