Facebook fever accelerates teen cosmetic surgery

One in six young Britonss is considering cosmetic surgery because they hate how they look on social network sites such as Facebook and Tumblr.

Seeing themselves in high definition has led to a surge in the numbers who say they could turn to “Facebook facelifts”,
according to new research. A survey by the media agency Mindshare found that 16 per cent of young British adults are now considering cosmetic surgery such as tummy tucks as a “normal” way of improving how they look.

Mindshare digital boss Norm Johnston said: “While cosmetic surgery used to be the exception, it seems it may be becoming the rule for young people for whom appearance is the number-one priority.”

The company surveyed 36,000 people from 36 different countries.
