Driver dies as snow returns
A MOTORIST died yesterday after his car left the road in icy conditions, as heavy snow returned to parts of Britain.
In Shetland, the driver of a Renault Clio was killed when the vehicle travelling between Vatster and Laxfirth in the Gott area left the road and caught fire at around 6am.
A hunt was launched for the 63-year-old man, who managed to get out of the car but was later found a short distance away.
In Grampian, the A939 was closed on the Aberdeenshire side between Ballater and Corgarff. The snow also brought about the temporary closure of the A93 in the Glenshee area and in Moray, the A941 Dufftown to Rhynie road was shut.
There were weather- related crashes across the Northumbria Police area, with some roads closed.
Snow is expected to fall again in northern Scotland over the next few days.
