'Date rape' drug case dropped
A COUPLE at the centre of a £4.4 million "date rape" drug case have escaped prosecution because of a legal loophole, according to a report.
Israeli citizen Hanan Rabin, 55, and Denise Macpherson, 47, were charged after raids on a drugs factory in Livingston two years ago.
They were accused of exporting large amounts of GBL – a substance with similar effects to the date rape drug, GHB – to America.
GBL is used to make GHB and is often sold by itself. But while GBH is illegal in Britain, GBL is not. And it was reported last night that because of that, prosecutors have dropped the case against Rabin and Macpherson.
