Conservative Party Conference: PM gets a cuffing in battle with Boris Johnson

DESPITE the two men having a clear-the-air pub lunch recently, the Tory conference is very much the Boris v Dave show over who Tory members would like to lead them – the mayor of London or Prime Minister.

Cufflink company Cuff and Co has entered into the spirit with “I love Dave” and “I love Boris” cufflinks on sale.

The Scotsman can report that after day one it was Boris cufflinks that were winning the sales war.

Today’s Tories make mugs of old posters

With the Tory party unhappy at their Lib Dem partners, a series of embarrassing U-turns, a double-dip recession and Labour leading them in the polls, it seems many have decided they would like to enjoy the good old days.

The Conservative Archive stall is selling mugs of famous election posters. These include the Double Whammy poster that won the election for John Major in 1992, Labour isn’t Working that got Margaret Thatcher over the line in 1979 and the particularly popular Forward with Churchill, which saw the war-time PM elected back into power in 1951.

Will the real Grant Shapps speak up...

When the Conservative Party chairman was billed as opening the party conference yesterday, there may have been one or two members wondered who would step up to the stage.

Grant Shapps has in his previous business existence used pseudonyms. So Labour handed out conference passes with his two alter egos – Michael Green and Sebastian Fox.
