Church loses its legal bid for logo cash

A SHERIFF has thrown out a bid by the Church of Scotland to claw back money paid to a design company for work on its logo.

The Kirk took Edinburgh creative communications agency Hookson to court after the company revealed project details on The Drum website.

Hookson was hired by the Kirk in November last year to carry out work on the existing logo. The church wanted a design which was consistent, could be used on its website and downloaded for use by individual congregations.

Giving evidence at a hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday Church of Scotland communications manager Jennie Rutte

said she felt angry when the company went public. saying it had not given permission for any announcement.

The Church of Scotland sacked Hookson, whose clients have also included the National Galleries of Scotland, and asked for the 3,220 paid for the work back which was refused.

Sheriff Deidre MacNeill QC said the damage in the press could have been refrained had the church reacted differently.

She said she could not find in favour of the church and granted a decree of absolvitor.
