Britain today: 'Nasty' Nick in BB return

"NASTY" Nick Bateman is making a return to the Big Brother house, as part of celebrations for its tenth series.

Bateman wrote notes which he showed to contestants to influence their voting.

On Monday he will take on his former nemesis – the assault course – and pit his fitness against a current housemate.

York: Police broke down the door of a property near the home of Claudia Lawrence during the hunt for the missing chef.

Officers smashed through the entrance to the house on Heworth Road in York yesterday. The search of the property was "the latest aspect" in the hunt for the 35-year-old who vanished from her home nearly four months ago, police said, but no arrests were made.

London: Sheep will replace cars on London Bridge today as the Lord Mayor exercises his ancient right to drive the woolly animals toll free over the river.

The charitable event is part of the Lord Mayor's Appeal.

Killing probe after man dies in nightclub assault

A MURDER investigation is under way after a 19-year-old man died after a nightclub assault in the early hours of today.

Police and ambulance staff were called to the Funktion Rooms in Eastbourne, East Sussex, to find the man had been attacked. He died in hospital.

A man, 24, was arrested and is in custody being questioned on suspicion of murder.

Crane climber is arrested

A MAN was arrested after climbing a 200ft crane outside a hospital, it emerged today.

Police negotiators were called after the 22-year-old clambered up the installation outside the casualty unit at Southampton General Hospital last night. He spent more than 90 minutes up the crane before climbing back down and being arrested.

Warning made over credit card firms' annual charges

CREDIT card companies may start charging annual fees in a bid to recoup revenue they could lose following a government clampdown on the industry, it was warned today.

The prediction came as internet bank Egg launched its new Egg Money World MasterCard credit card, which charges an annual 12 fee.

Commentators warned that other firms were likely to follow suit following last week's publication of the Consumer White Paper.

Cabbie decapitates himself

A TAXI driver decapitated himself in his black cab in what appears to have been a gruesome suicide, it emerged today.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, tied a rope to a lamppost and the other end around his neck before driving off from the spot in Southwark, yesterday.

The death is being treated as a suicide.
