Branson backs smacking ban
CELEBRITIES including Sir Richard Branson and Bridget Jones author Helen Fielding today demanded smacking be banned.
Other figures from the arts, politics, business and media joined them in signing a letter supporting the Children are Unbeatable campaign.
"It should be clear that an assault on a child is as wrong and unlawful as assaulting anyone else," the letter says.
A crunch vote on ending parents’ legal defence of "reasonable chastisement" could be passed by peers today.
