Books left for charity could fetch £2,000
TWO rare books dumped on a charity worker's doorstep could each fetch up to £1,000.
Mary Davidson, the convenor of Christian Aid's annual book sale in Edinburgh, is used to finding bags of books left by anonymous donors outside her home.
But the two first editions – Dugald Stewart's Outlines of Moral Philosophy, from 1793, and Letters From The Mountains by Anne Grant, from 1806, may raise thousands for the fair, held next month at St Andrew's and St George's Parish Church. "They just turned up in a bag on my doorstep months ago," said Mrs Davidson yesterday.
Simon Vickers, head of rare books at Edinburgh's Lyon and Turnbull, said both works were rare and good examples could fetch up to 1,000.
