Big Brother's first task – get an audience
THE new series of Big Brother launched with less than half the audience of last year's celebrity version.
Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack had a combined total of 3.4 million viewers on Channel 4 and E4 on Thursday night.
Celebrity Big Brother, with Jade Goody and Shilpa Shetty, opened with 7.1 million viewers on Channel 4 alone last year.
As a result of the race row that overshadowed that series, Channel 4 bosses decided to replace it this year with the Celebrity Hijack format.
Famous faces are taking over the role of Big Brother, while the housemates were chosen for their intelligence and talent.
They include John Loughton, the Scottish Youth Parliament chairman, who is favourite to win the 50,000 prize.
Ladbrokes have slashed his odds of winning from 8/1 to 2/1.
