Bid to aid pubs as closures soar
A CAMPAIGN to boost Britain's pubs was launched yesterday in a bid to halt a wave of closures, now running at 50 a week.
The British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) and the Society of Independent Brewers are calling on drinkers, publicans and politicians to do more to keep pubs open.
It came as a poll of 1,000 adults found the majority believe tax on beer is too high and agree the closure of pubs is undermining the country's communities.
Brigid Simmonds, chief executive of the BBPA, said: "There is deep concern at the record number of pub closures."
