Ban on convicted peers moves closer
Laws to expel peers convicted of serious criminal offences from the House of Lords have moved a step forward.
Proposed legislation being steered through parliament by former Liberal leader and Holyrood presiding officer Lord Steel of Aikwood has been slimmed down to try to get the changes approved before the summer.

Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 06:32 AMWell the House of Lords is after all unelected. Given their ability to stop new legislation in its tracks it must be worth a laugh in the International Community. It sort of smacks of a dictatorship of accummulated unlike minds. Pretty mind boggling when you think about it, funny that it usually works quite well. You could have the option of electing an upper house but you run the risk of having a lower and upper house filled with the same calibre of folk and never knowing at any time what they thought. No I would keep it as it is, well after you have ejected the crooks. It is amazing how their Lordships perform after you have removed the necessity to sell their souls to get re-elected when they were common or garden politicians.
