Backpackers prefer US to Australia
THE United States has replaced Australia as the backpackers' favourite destination, partly because of the strength of the pound against the dollar.
The US was also the country that UK and Irish people were most likely to visit next, a survey of 2,500 travellers by the guidebook company Lonely Planet found. Spain was the next most likely destination, followed by Australia.
