More than 800 potential new victims of phone-hacking at the News Of The World could be revealed today according to reports.
The Independent claims that an informant has helped police obtain new evidence which indicates that the culture of phone-hacking had spread beyond the tabloid’s newsdesk and into the features department.
The new evidence is said to be unveiled today at a special hearing at the High Court which is looking at civil actions against the NOTW’s owner News International, and it is claimed that the evidence relates to the recent arrest of six former journalists who worked at the paper last month.
Four current and past members of staff from Trinity Mirror were also arrested in February.
The news comes as MPs struggle to agree on a new set of regulations for the press ahead of a vote in the Commons today.
