£500,000 jewellery stolen on Glasgow-London train

DETECTIVES investigating a £500,000 jewellery theft on a train have appealed for help from the public.

The made-to-order jewellery was in luggage that was stolen from the 15:50 Glasgow to London King's Cross service on 5 November. The owner is a jeweller from the south of England, say police.

The theft happened some time before the train stopped at Motherwell.

The haul included gold, platinum and palladium wedding, eternity and engagement rings, bracelets and pendants. Detective Constable Raymond Grimley, of British Transport Police, said: "The stolen jewellery is unique and unusual in design and therefore extremely valuable.

"I am appealing for anyone who was on the train and may have seen anyone acting suspiciously to come forward. I would also like to hear from anyone who is offered jewellery in unusual circumstances."

Police said the victim of the theft was a 64-year-old jeweller from Hertfordshire.
