Celtic consider move for USA World Cup star Mikkel Diskerud

Celtic are looking at making an offer for Mikkel Diskerud, new manager Ronny Deila is a huge admirer of the 23-year-old attacking midfielder. He has previously failed in a bid to take the player to his old club Stromsgodset. The Sun reports that the Rosenborg player was also on Celtic’s radar under Neil Lennon. Now they could get the player for as little as £250,000 as Diskerud’s contract with the Norwegians is up in December. His father Paal, also his agent said: “I will confirm Ronny tried to sign Mikkel when he was on loan to Belgian club Gent from Stabaek.” (Sun)

Celtic target Scotland Under-21 star Stefan Scougall

Celtic are considering a move for Scotland Under-21 star Stefan Scougall, the Daily Express reports that new Celts assistant manager John Collins has alerted boss Ronny Deila to the Sheffield United player. Collins knows Scougall from his days as director of football at Livingston when he described Scougall as one of the best young players he had ever worked with. Scougall himself has added to his reputation, breaking into the Sheffield United first team and helping them to the semi-finals of last term’s FA cup. Blades defender Harry Maguire is also said to be on Celtic’s radar. (Express)

Dundee United offer Dutchman Marley Berkvens the chance to win a deal

Dundee United have offered Dutch playmaker Marley Berkvens the chance to win a contract at Tannadice after he was recommended to boss Jackie MacNamara. The 21-year-old is at SBV Excelsior in the Netherlands’ Eredevisie after coming through the youth ranks at Feyernoord. MacNamara has already unearthed one gem from the Netherlands in the form of Nadir Ciftci who he took on trial from NAC Breda. He has already strengthened his squad for next season signing Blair Spittal from Queen’s Park and Dunfermline defender Calum Morris. (Express)

Scotland’s four European representatives await draw

Scotland’s four European representatives will today discover their fate when the draws for the early rounds of the Champion’s League and Europa League are made in Switzerland. New Celtic manager Ronny Deila will await to see who his new team could face, their opponents could include his former club Stormsgodset. Other possible opponents could be Irish champion’s St Patrick’s, Northern Ireland champions Cliftonville, Welsh champions the New Saints and Swedish Champions Malmo. Celtic will play their first home game at Murrayfield, Edinburgh, as Parkhead is being used for the Commonwealth Games, on July 15-16 or the following week for the second leg depending on the draw. Motherwell who are seeded, will go in a round later than Aberdeen, while St Johnstone, who like the Steelmen enter in the second qualifying round, are unseeded and could face teams like Spartak Moscow or Lech Posnan.
