Tunnel expert joins airport rail link team
A TUNNELLING expert has joined the design team of the £650 million project to create a rail link to Edinburgh Airport.
Dr Gordon Crighton has been appointed project director for the design of the Edinburgh Airport Rail Link (EARL).
He has over 30 years experience in construction including helping to build the Channel Tunnel and the airport railway in Hong Kong.
EARL will involve digging a tunnel under the airport runway and giving direct access to Edinburgh Airport for passenger trains from Edinburgh, Fife and Glasgow, opening the airport up to a wider national market.
Dr Crighton said: "With many years of experience on international projects under my belt I am delighted to have the opportunity to apply my tunnelling and railway knowledge to Scotland
