Despite including the word “Trust” in the heading, your admirable editorial (2 July) makes no reference to the BBC Trust in its condemnation of the BBC management’s profligacy with its severance payments, which included £394,500 to Sharon Baylay after a mere two years’ service as marketing director.

The Trust’s remit is to represent the interests of the British public.

It has manifestly not done so. Lord Patten and all the other trustees should be dismissed immediately, without compensation.
