Trump in running for top Scot title
US PROPERTY tycoon Donald Trump is one of ten well-known faces in the running to be named Scot of the Year.
The businessman behind plans for a 1 billion golf project in Aberdeenshire makes it on to the list for his investment in the country.
But Mr Trump, who is half Scottish on his mother's side, faces competition from figures from the worlds of politics, sport and the arts.
The competition has been launched by the ScotsCare charity and the winner will be announced to mark Burns Day on 25 January.
The list of contenders for the title Scot of the Year 2008 was released yesterday by the charity, which helps needy Scots in London.
Last year's winner, Gordon Brown, the Prime Minister, is in the running once again, as is Olympic hero Chris Hoy, and tennis star, Andy Murray.
The arts world is represented on the list by author AL Kennedy, Doctor Who star David Tennant and actress Kelly Macdonald. Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay also makes it into the top ten.
ScotsCare chief executive Willie Docherty said: "Its always interesting, if sometimes surprising, to see who the public choose."
