Troubled fighter declared bankrupt after losing tax fight

SCOTT Harrison, the former world boxing champion, lost his fight with the inland revenue over his unpaid tax bill yesterday as he was declared bankrupt.

Attempts had been made to save the troubled fighter from sequestration, but HM Revenue and Customs finally ran out of patience over an unpaid tax demand of more than 83,000.

As an undischarged bankrupt, it could be a criminal offence for Harrison to obtain credit of more than 250 without disclosing his position.

It had been hoped Harrison could clear the debt through the sale of a property in Glasgow.

At the bankruptcy case at the Court of Session in Edinburgh yesterday, Iain Artis, counsel for the Revenue,

said Harrison had received an offer of 350,000 for a house he owned in Glasgow, but the clear proceeds of the sale would be only 70,000, not enough to clear the debt.
