Tree replacement a must on Walk

IT is very sad that the existing line of 20-year-old trees will have to be chopped down (Outrage as every Leith Walk tree faces tram axe, News, October 28).

Council officials have stated that the trees will be replaced or replanted in a ratio of two for one within the Leith Walk area, and trees that cannot be sited at this current stage during the tram works will be added to the council tree bank.

Once the tram works are near completion, these trees will then be sited on or along the tram line where possible.

As a local councillor, I shall be keeping a keen eye on the replacement of trees as well as the cast iron clock and the bronze pigeons to make sure these are re-instated. Leith Walk needs to be greener!

Councillor Angela Blacklock, Leith Walk Ward, Labour
