A WOMAN is in a serious condition in hospital after being knocked down by a bus.

The accident happened at around 9am today in Princes Street, Edinburgh, close to Princes Mall.

The 66-year-old woman was hit by a First Bus and suffered serious head injuries, police said.

She was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh before being transferred to the Western General Hospital, where she remains in a serious condition.

The road was closed while officers investigated the scene and police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to contact them.

Sergeant Brian Smith said: “We are still trying to establish how this collision occurred and are keen to speak with any members of the public who were on Princes Street at the time.

“In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this ongoing investigation is also asked to contact police immediately.”
