• Met Office issues yellow warning for gales and blizzards across Scotland
• Winds could reach up to 50mph, and may be particularly strong in north and western areas
Forecasters said winds would reach severe gale force - 50mph - with gusts particularly strong in exposed northern and western areas.
The affected zone includes the entire west coast and islands north from Campbeltown and west of Glasgow, and everywhere north of Inverness including Orkney and Shetland.
The Met Office said heavy showers would fall as sleet and snow “quite widely”, with some drifting snow and temporary blizzard conditions, especially over high ground.
A spokesman added: “The public should be aware of the potential for disruption, especially to travel.”
