A washing machine took a tumble on to the M74 in Scotland this morning - leaving commuters all in a spin.

The machine took up residence in the middle lane and drivers had to straddle the inside and outside lanes to avoid it.

The incident took place between junctions five and four at Tannochside, near Glasgow.

It has now been moved to the hard shoulder to stop it causing any traffic issues.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We believe the washing machine fell off a van at around 8.10am.

“It has now been moved to the hard shoulder and fortunately it didn’t cause any major traffic problems.”
