Van driver killed after rush-hour collision with Royal Mail lorry
A VAN driver was killed yesterday in a collision with a Royal Mail lorry during the early morning rush-hour on the outskirts of Aberdeen.
The 59-year-old man, who had not been named last night, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision on a busy commuter route.
He was driving a blue Renault Kangoo van which was in collision with a Royal Mail lorry on the A944 at its junction with the B979 at Mason Lodge, near Westhill, shortly before 7am. The van smashed through a wall and ended on its side.
The road was closed until mid-afternoon to allow investigators to examine the scene of the fatal crash.
A Grampian Police spokesman said: “It is a road junction which has had one or two collisions over the years. The lay-out of the junction will form part of the investigation.”
A Royal Mail spokesman said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the other driver and with the Royal Mail driver, who has been taken to hospital. Grampian Police are dealing with the incident.”
