A van driver has been seriously injured in a collision with a tanker.

Fire crews had to cut the man free from his vehicle following the crash on the A9 by Dornoch in the Highlands.

The Ford Transit van was travelling north when it was in collision with the south-bound petrol tanker at Poles at around 10.30pm yesterday.

The driver is being treated for serious injuries at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Police Scotland have appealed for any witnesses to contact them on 101.
