Used Beemers tops for buyers

Used-car purchasers are as likely to buy BMWs as battered bangers, according to a survey.

The average price of a privately-sold used car is now more than £6,000, the poll by Experian found.

High-end models such as the BMW 3 Series and the Audi A4 are among the most popular vehicles sold second hand, the survey revealed.

The poll was based on responses from 1,800 used-car owners who had bought a car from a private seller in the past 18 months. It revealed 80 per cent had never owned a new car and that by the time we reach the age of 55, we will have owned, on average, ten used cars
