ScotRail finally rolls out extra carriages

RAIL commuters into Edinburgh from Dalmeny have finally been given the extra carriages they were promised on their train.

Passengers on the 7.58am service were having to squeeze into just three carriages after storm damage to trains and some were left on the platform.

ScotRail told Edinburgh West Liberal Democrat MP Mike Crockart it would operate the trains with six carriages from this week, but the extra carriages failed to materialise. ScotRail blamed further storm damage to rolling stock.

But yesterday the 7.58am train did have six carriages. Mr Crockart said: “This is excellent news for commuters from Dalmeny. I have been in touch with ScotRail bosses virtually daily since the issue was raised.

“I was told on Wednesday a six-carriage service would not run until Monday so I was very pleased yesterday’s train was back to normal capacity.”

Transport Scotland? Does that "ivory-(Buchanan House)-towered" quango actually know what a real train looks like? I doubt it!

This exposes the fact that Scotrail run with insufficient rolling stock to meet contingencies. Peak-time trains often run shortened due to mechanical failures. They must be hammered by Transport Scotland for these failures - no excuse. Ban First Group from the 2014 franchise as well.
