ScotRail trains hit record punctuality

SCOTRAIL passengers enjoyed record punctuality this month, when fewer than one in 20 trains arrived behind schedule.

The unmatched performance was achieved by few track and signalling faults and good maintenance work, Network Rail said.

A total of 95.1 per cent of trains arrived within five minutes of time in the four weeks to 15 September, nearly 3 percentage points better than a year ago.

Punctuality over the last year also reached a new high, of 91.9 per cent.

A Network Rail spokesman said: “The main reason for the figure is good asset reliability, underpinned by a strong performance from maintenance and the other teams out on the network.”

A ScotRail spokesman said: “Our focus on performance is working, with the results speaking for themselves. That focus on improvements will continue.”

East Coast’s monthly punctuality was 93.3 per cent.
