COMMUTERS have been warned of disruption during this evening’s rush hour after another amber-alert flood warning for the central belt was issued by the Met Office.
The Scottish Government’s Transport Scotland agency said there is a risk of flooding and surface water on roads across an area stretching as far as the Borders, Fife and south Tayside.
Transport minister Keith Brown said: “I would once again urge the public to check before they travel for the latest information and also to take extra care when travelling throughout the day.”
Stewart Prodger, of the Scottish Environment Protection Agency’s (SEPA) flood unit said: “Heavy rain has caused significant rises in river levels.
“Since yesterday, SEPA has been putting several flood alerts in force, and flood warnings – mostly for low lying agricultural areas around the River Earn in Perthshire – are also active.
“During Wednesday afternoon, the main focus will shift towards the Dundee and Angus area, and possibly into southern Aberdeenshire.
“Our monitoring indicates that rivers are still rising but are expected to peak later on today, remaining high into Thursday and then slowly returning to normal.”
