TWO people have died in a car crash on a rural road in Aberdeenshire.

The male driver and female passenger, who were travelling in a Land Rover Freelander, were fatally injured in the collision with a silver Volkswagen Transporter van on the A980 Torphins to Banchory road, Aberdeenshire, at around 7.15pm yesterday.

Emergency services were called to the incident but the pair died at the scene, police said.

The woman driving the Volkswagen was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment but her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The road was closed while police investigated the circumstances of the crash and officers are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to contact them on 101.

A motorcyclist in Angus has also died after colliding with a car.

The 28-year-old man was killed when his bike hit a white Toyota Yaris on Seaton Road in Arbroath.

The crash happened near the Bearfauld junction at around 6pm yesterday.

Police are keen to trace witnesses, including another motorcyclist believed to have been driving a green and white bike in the area at the time.
