Police in call to witnesses of taxi crash

POLICE have appealed for witnesses to a road crash which saw an elderly woman struck by a taxi then become trapped beneath it.

The 76-year-old woman was hit by a black seven-seater Peugeot taxi as it turned from Morningside Road into the drop off area outside the Marks and Spencer store.

The woman suffered multiple injuries and had to be freed by firefighters before being rushed by ambulance to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where she is still recovering.

The incident took place at around 12.55pm on Tuesday.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Anyone in the area at that time who may have witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact police on 101.”
