A plane made an emergency landing after crew noticed an unusual smell in the cockpit.

Emergency services were on standby as the Eastern Airways aircraft landed at Aberdeen Airport at around 10am today.

The plane, with three crew on board, landed safely.

Eastern Airways said it has launched an investigation.

A spokesman said: “While repositioning an aircraft back to Aberdeen from Scatsta (on Shetland), the operating flight crew reported an unusual odour in the cockpit.

“There were no passengers on board and the aircraft with three crew landed safely at 10am today. On arrival, the aircraft taxied to its parking stand.

“We have launched an investigation and engineers are inspecting the aircraft.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said they stood by at the scene but their services were not required as the plane landed safely.

A police spokesman said: “We were made aware of an emergency landing at Aberdeen Airport this morning. Officers attended the scene as a precaution.”
