Network Rail chiefs’ bonuses attacked
Network Rail bosses have been condemned over a proposed package of six-figure bonuses described as “unacceptable” by Transport Secretary Justine Greening.
Chief executive Sir David Higgins could receive a £340,000 pay-out under a bonus scheme to be considered by the firm’s members this month.
Ms Greening yesterday urged the company to be “responsible” and “exercise restraint”.
The row comes amid anxiety at Westminster about executive pay and after Network Rail admitted health and safety breaches over the deaths of two teenagers at a level crossing.
The proposed bonus scheme would see Network Rail directors receive annual bonuses of 60 per cent of their annual salaries. They include Sir David, whose salary is £560,000, group finance director Patrick Butcher (£350,000) and operations director Robin Gisby (£330,000).
