A MAN has died after an accident involving an articulated lorry on the city bypass.

The 35-year-old pedestrian was hit by the lorry on the westbound carriageway near the Lothianburn junction at around 11.30pm last night.

He was given artificial respiration at the side of the road before an ambulance crew and medic one from Edinburgh Royal Infirmary arrived, but his injuries were too severe and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for about three and a half hours. Police said a full accident investigation was under way.

Twitter messages from passing motorists referred to people giving assistance to the man after the accident.

The man has not yet been named.
