A motorist has died after his car hit a lamppost.

The 69-year-old man was discovered by a passing driver on the B1348 between Prestonpans and Musselburgh in East Lothian.

His red Ford Galaxy was spotted on the eastbound verge at around 2.25am.

The driver, thought to have started his journey in the Port Seaton area, was taken by ambulance to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he was pronounced dead.

Sergeant Neil Inglis said: “We are eager to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident, particularly if they were on the B1348 in the early hours of the morning.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police immediately.”
