SEVERE delays have been caused on Edinburgh city bypass after a lorry shed its load.

The vehicle, which is understood to have overturned, spilled its load between Dreghorn and Baberton around 2.20pm this afternoon.

The Scania tipper lorry’s trailer came loose, scattering a large amount of waste paper and polystyrene on the westbound bypass.

No one was injured in the incident, but the carriageway travelling west is completely closed, and is likely to remain so for some time.

Police officers confirmed recovery work was in progress but warned commuters to expect lengthy delays.

Motorists have been advised to take alternative routes while the debris is cleared and the lorry is recovered.
