An airline is to base a fourth plane at a Scottish airport, creating 50 jobs.

• Destinations in Spain, Croatia, and Menorca to be served from Glasgow

• Added flights mean capacity will be raised 20%

Jet2.com is also launching three new routes from Glasgow Airport next summer, to Murcia in Spain, Pula in Croatia and Menorca.

It will be the first time Murcia and Pula are served from Glasgow Airport.

There will also be more flights to destinations including the Canaries, Majorca, Ibiza and Turkey, with overall capacity next summer 20% up on 2012.

Steve Heapy, managing director of Jet2holidays, added: “Glasgow is an important base for us, and as we enter our third year, we are delighted to announce more new destinations our customers want.

“Local holidaymakers have been requesting services to Menorca, Murcia and Pula and we are happy to be offering these amazing destinations for 2013.

“We recently announced Bodrum and Gran Canaria, which are also new for next year, meaning passengers have even more fantastic holiday options direct from Glasgow Airport.

“Adding our fourth dedicated aircraft is also great news for the area. This will be based at Glasgow ahead of the peak holiday season in May and will allow us to offer these new destinations and even more flying.”

Flights to Murcia will depart every Monday and Friday from May 24 2013, while weekly flights to Pula will start next June 18.

Weekly flights to Menorca will start on May 25 2013.

Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said: “Since its arrival in 2010, Jet2.com has gone from strength-to-strength at Glasgow Airport and has firmly established itself as one of our most popular airlines, carrying almost 600,000 passengers to date.

“Its decision to expand operations with the addition of a fourth aircraft, which will result in the creation of 50 new jobs, is fantastic news and it clearly demonstrates Jet2.com’s confidence in and commitment to Glasgow Airport.

“We are looking forward to working closely with Jet2.com in the coming months to ensure it enjoys further success.”
