Hazardous roads force three schools to close in Aberdeenshire as snow alert issued

THREE primary schools in Aberdeenshire have been closed to pupils because of adverse road conditions following overnight snowfall.

• Another 15 schools are affected

Another 15 schools in the area have been hit by the cancellations of some school bus runs.

The schools which have been closed to pupils are Clatt, Crossroads and Towie primaries. The Gordon Primary School in Huntly is also partially closed to pupils.

In Aberdeenshire the B974 Banchory to Fettercairn road is completely closed due to heavy snowfall. Drivers on the A96 between Huntly and Keith are being advised to “exercise caution” due to snow in the area. The road is passable with care.

Grampian Police have also reported hazardous driving conditions on the the A944 Aberdeen to Westhill road and on the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee dual carriageway in the Laurencekirk area.

Meanwhile the Met Office has issued a yellow alert of snow for Aberdeenshire, Moray and Aberdeen valid from 6pm tonight through to mid-day on Wednesday.
