Girl, six, knocked down on crossing

A YOUNG girl was hit by a car as she walked to school yesterday.

The incident happened about 9am in Greenock, when the six-year-old was on the A78 Inverkip Road near the junction with Old Inverkip Road at Barrs Cottage.

She was trying to cross at a pedestrian crossing when she was hit by a car travelling at slow speed towards Greenock.

The girl was taken to hospital for treatment to a minor head injury and was later released.

Strathclyde Police are appealing for witnesses.

They are also looking for the driver of the vehicle, a silver Vauxhall Corsa, which did not stop. They said the driver may not be aware they hit anyone.

Police said the girl was not seriously injured.

The vehicle is described as a new-shape Corsa, with four doors and coloured silver.
