Forth Bridge control centre to manage crossing

A 24-HOUR control centre is set to be built to manage the new Forth Replacement Crossing and the existing road bridge.

The existing board room for the Forth Estuary Transport Authority (FETA) at South Queensferry would be transformed into the new control room under submitted plans. Work is likely to start early next year.

FETA has also recommended a minimum ten-year contract be awarded to the private operator taking over management of the two bridges when the authority is disbanded in two years.

A report said the contract should be a lengthy one to encourage the successful company to take a long-term view towards management of the twin bridges.

The Forth Replacement Crossing is due to be completed in 2016.
