EMERGENCY services at Glasgow airport were today scrambled to meet a Gatwick-bound British Airways flight which had turned back en route with “technical problems”, Glasgow airport said.

The aircraft, with 83 passengers on board, which had left Glasgow at 2:20pm, landed normally, an airport spokesman said.

He said fire and ambulance crews were on hand as part of standard procedure, but they were not needed.

A spokesman for British Airways said the incident had involved an “airborne return”, with the aircraft turning back “not far” into the flight.

He said the aircraft remained on the ground at Glasgow airport, where it would be checked by engineers.
