TRAINS were halted this evening between Kilmarnock and Ayr after a body was found near railway tracks, Network Rail said.

ScotRail said the emergency services were dealing with an incident between the stations.

The train operator advised passengers: “Train services between Kilmarnock and Ayr may be cancelled or revised at short notice. An estimate for the resumption of normal services will be provided as soon as the problem has been fully assessed.”

The firm said it was arranging a replacement minibus for passengers.

ScotRail said the death was being treated as suspicious because the body of a male was found adjacent to the line but there had been no reports of anyone being struck by a train
