City inspires bus firm plan
The success of Lothian Buses has encouraged councillors in Aberdeen to consider forming a council-owned bus company.
Lothian Buses, which is supported by the councils of Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian, is widely regarded as one of the UK’s leading bus companies. Its performance was raised in an Aberdeen City Council meeting, following concerns about First raising fares.
Council leader Callum McCaig said: “If Edinburgh can do it, I don’t see why we can’t.”

Friday, February 3, 2012 at 08:56 PMCallum McCaig had better get someone in who can do his sums before spending a fortune on meetings and planning, delays and Bus' tups with the contractors which will waste time and money. Why doesn't he see how many surplus buses Lothian has left over if the tram ever becomes operational? He's then got the equipment and the experienced staff already in place to run it. Why reinvent the wheel? (pun intended).

Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 04:47 PMIf I were Bus`ting with excitement about public transport in Aberdeen, the last place that I would look to for example would be Edinburgh. Why, because the Wheels just fell off the Edinburgh Bus. A fall in passenger numbers and a decease in subsidies will add up to a unaffordale transport system. Then add a tram to the mix and it will be "On yer Bike"

Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 02:33 PMBack to the 80s, where public transport was publicly owned and democratically controlled? The Government - instructed by a paymaster with global private bus interests - will never allow that to happen. Profits first, customers last.

Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 02:15 PMWhy don't Aberdeen go the whole hog and build a tram line. Incidentally, Aberdeen's buses already have a claim to fame. In Roger's Profanisaurus, as published by Viz, the term "Scum Shuttle" specifically mentions the "Torry to Northfield bus"
