Bridge engineer to act as manufacturing ambassador

A CIVIL engineer who is working on the new Forth Replacement Crossing has been named as one of 30 rising young stars of the manufacturing world in the UK.

James Holloway, from Doune, near Stirling, who now lives in Edinburgh, was one of the successful applicants in the UK government’s Make It In Great Britain 30 Under-30 campaign.

The 24-year-old, a graduate civil engineer at Arup, will now go on to act as an ambassador for the campaign which aims to challenge outdated opinions and transform the image of modern manufacturing.

Mr Holloway said: “It’s a real privilege to be selected and to be given the opportunity to help promote the role of manufacturing in the UK economy.”

Sara Thiam, regional director of the Institution of Civil Engineers in Scotland, added: “James has already done a great deal to help promote civil engineering here in Scotland, especially with young people, and it’s fantastic he is now being given to opportunity to continue that work through this campaign.”
