Battle over city bypass reaches top UK court

A PROTEST group opposing the £400 million Aberdeen bypass took its legal battle to Britain’s highest court yesterday.

A two-day hearing began at the Supreme Court in London in a last-ditch attempt by the leaders of RoadSense to block the go-ahead for the 28-mile Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route.

RoadSense chairman William Walton said: “The Scottish Government failed to comply [with EU law], with the result that residents were denied the opportunity to object. This is a consequence of the previous minister’s decision to change the route at the eleventh hour and select a route not previously subject to formal consultation.”
